Our Teachers. What We Look For

We're hiring the people who'll open these rooms. Until they sign, there are no faces on this page. Borrowed photos of teachers who work somewhere else would be easy, and we're not doing that.

What we can show you now is the standard. Susanna hires against a written list, and every family gets to read it. This is the list.

The Bar

• Real time with two to six year olds. Daycare, preschool, or professional nanny work all count. A special education background is a plus.
• Calm in a loud room. A room of three year olds gets loud, and the adult in it sets the temperature.
• CPR and first aid, or ready to certify before the doors open.
• Notices how your specific child learns, and tells you at pickup.
• English. Polish, Spanish, or Russian helps in Greenpoint, we don't require it.
• On time, every day, and the same warmth toward every family in the building.

How We Read a Resume

Years count for less than most people think. A teacher with three good years beats one with fifteen tired ones. In the interview we watch one thing hard. Does this person get down to a child's eye level, ask a question, and then wait for the answer.

How Hiring Works

Applications go to giftedandtalentednyc@gmail.com. Every one gets an answer within a week. If it looks like a fit, the next step is a video call with Susanna.

Four lead teachers open this school, one for each program. As each of them signs, their name, their photo, and what they're good at go on this page. You'll meet them on a tour before your child ever starts.
