For families starting daycare with a toddler

Maybe you're returning to work, changing care arrangements, or looking for a place where your child can spend time with other children. At two, even a short goodbye can feel big. The first goal is a child who knows the room, recognizes the adults, and begins to understand what comes next.

Six children, a teacher, and an assistant

The toddler room has six children with a teacher and an assistant. That's the whole group. The center has capacity for 40 children across three rooms, with different groups for different ages. Our group for ages 3 to 4 has 10 children with a teacher and an aide.

Lead teachers must be licensed. Director Susanna Isakova brings more than 15 years of experience in early childhood and special education. When you visit, talk with her about the moments that matter at home: how your child asks for help, what comforts them, and what makes transitions easier.

A full day with time to slow down

A toddler's day needs a rhythm they can learn. Our planned schedule balances active play with quieter periods. Activities change with the group, but care remains part of the day from arrival through pickup.

• Arrival and morning welcome. A chance to settle, move, and join the room. Simple songs and a familiar opening activity help mark the start of the day.
• Morning play. Sensory materials, stories, and language activities give children things to explore with their hands and words. Teachers help with turns and small frustrations.
• Movement and lunch. Active play breaks up the morning. Children eat food brought from home and practice the everyday steps around mealtime.
• Rest and a quieter pace. A rest period gives young children a pause. Discuss your child's current sleep routine with the team before they start.
• Afternoon play and pickup. Creative activities and free choice play round out the day. Friday's regular pickup is earlier, at 3 PM.

Getting comfortable away from home

Tell us if this is your child's first group care experience. Some toddlers head straight for the toys; others watch from a parent's side. Neither tells the whole story. Bring questions about goodbyes, rest, toilet routines, and how the team handles a difficult morning.

Before starting, practice small routines your child can recognize: putting a coat in its place, washing hands, or choosing a book before a quiet period. Learning through play, without admission tests

Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligences guides our curriculum. For toddlers, that means opportunities to learn through movement, music, words, pictures, building, and contact with other children. We watch what catches a child's attention and use it to introduce another small step.

Art, dance, music, and drama specialists contribute to the center's enrichment program. There are no admission tests. The programs page describes Little Explorers and the next age groups. The center serves ages 2 to 6, with After School Enrichment for ages 5 to 7.

Near McCarren Park and your Greenpoint errands

Our address is on the corner of McGuinness and Broome Street. McCarren Park and Manhattan Avenue are nearby, useful landmarks when you plan a daycare stop into your morning. The G train serves Nassau Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue. Your best route depends on where you start and where you go after drop-off.
